*October 14 2001 - New Stuff
A couple of things to report.
Thing number one, we are done recording our album and are now waiting for all the various labels to finish arguing over who gets to put the record out. If you run a record label or if you are an A&R goon for one, please Email us
and we'll let you know where to fax the "Standard Rich
and Famous Contract" or "SRFC" and where to send the
fruit basket.
Thing number two, there are a bunch of new pictures up
in the pictures section. Find the hidden donkey to win a
special prize!

we are in the studio with ryan massey working on a new cd/lp. the studio has the same mixing board that was used for pink floyd's "the wall". rock n' fucking roll!
*November 17, 2000 - But other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?
A lot of people have been asking me what happened at the show we played at 924 Gilman Street on November 11th, so I figured I'd post my unbiased account of the events that transpired on the night of the show in question. Or something like that.
Basically what happened was Rachel (who was selling our records and stuff at the show) and I were standing on chairs by our merch table at the back of the
club trying to watch Meltbanana, but we couldn't see the stage because one of the mean women from the opening band was
standing on Meltbanana's merch table (after their roadie had asked her to get down repeatedly).
We wanted to get her attention, so Rachel threw a wadded up peice of paper (probably not the best idea
in retrospect, but in my opinion, not an act of hostility that warrants violent retribution) at this
girl's back so that we could ask her stand on the chair next to the table so that everyone could see.
Evidently in idiot/psycho-language, "could you please move out of the way so that we can see the band"
translates to something along the lines of "I hate you and I'm going to kill you and your family!
", because she told us to fuck off.
A verbal argument ensued in which we tried to explain that if she just stood on the chair next to the
table everyone could see, and she in turn tried to convince us that it was of the utmost importance that
we fuck ourselves. She then pulled out a knife and threatened to kill both of us. After she pulled out
the knife and Rachel continued to insult the girl and I started laughing at her, the girl must have
remembered that this was not her "magic knife" that can kill people from 10 feet away because she got
down off of the table started walking toward us presumably for the purpose of "shanking our punk asses".
She walked over to Rachel and started to reach towards her, and that's when I picked her up and carried
her out of the club, asked her what the hell was wrong with her, called the cops, walked Rachel to her
car, etc.
I was a little worried that the other 20 or 30 members of her lame ass band might try to jump me after
the show, but I guess they were too busy drinking Bud Ice out of paper cups inside Gilman and sexually
harrasing every underage girl who came near them to notice what was going on, and none of them did or said anything.
So that's what happened. Pretty stupid huh?
Here's a pop quiz on show ettiquette for all of you:
Question: When someone politely askes you to move out of the way so that they can see a band, you should always ___________.
(WRONG!) Scream "I'M GOING TO FUCKING KILL YOU!" and pull a knife.
(LESS WRONG) Scream "I'M GOING TO FUCKING KILL YOU!" but do not pull the knife.
(RIGHT) Scream "I'M GOING TO FUCKING KILL YOU!" and get out of their way.
(MOST RIGHTEST) Get out of their way so everyone can enjoy the show.

*September 8, 2000 - Help! We're in the teevee!
That's right, The Cost is making their television debut on BTV Channel 25's local music show The Sound Gallery, a program with over a dozen loyal viewers!
I meant to post this earlier, since the show has already aired twice, but you can still catch the last showing on Sunday, September 10th at 9:30 PM. That is, IF you live in Berkeley, AND have cable TV.
But don't dispair, even if you're not among the lucky five or so people who get to watch the show on the teevee, there is still hope for you yet. We are going to take a video-tape of the show and bring it to wherever it is that they keep the internet, and cram that sucker in there so you can watch it on the computer!
Don't you feel better now? -Steve
*August,23,2000 - Don't belive tha hype!
A few days ago I was looking through The List to see what types "funk-punk-thrash-ska shows of interest" were going down in my 'hood. To my surprise, I found that The Cost is supposed to play a show on the 25th of August at Burnt Ramen. I had not heard anything about this show, but since this was not the first time I have found out that we are playing show by looking at The List, I decided to check with the rest of the band only to find that none of us ever agreed to play this show.
Not only did we never agree to play the show, but the band we we're suposedly booked to play with is apparently notorious for screwing over touring bands when they come to Portland.
Needless to say, we are not playing this show, and in fact I don't think there is going to be a show at all. So don't bother going there unless you are a fan of hanging out in the dank, smelly basements of dank, smelly warehouses.
From this experience I can only gather that it is now common practice to book shows without getting any confirmation from or even notifying the people involved. So, in light of this new trend I will now announce some of our upcoming shows which of course have never been mentioned to the people who run the venues or the other bands:
+Saturday September 2 at The Great American Music Hall.
The Cost with Fugazi, Drive Like Jehu, and Shellac
5$, all ages, doors at 8PM
+Friday October 6 at Berkeley Square (Grand Reopening!!!)
The Cost with June of '44, and Three Mile Pilot
$6.52, ages 15 and up, 21+ gets in free, NO 19 YEAR OLDS, 9:35 PM
+Friday October 20 - The Cost: Live at Budokon!
With special guests Motley Crue, and Jesus
I hope to see you all there!
A5K, -Steve
*August,15,2000 - The stuff is in the thing.
So, I just noticed that the pictures in the picture section of this site are extremely old and unflattering. If anyone has some more recent pictures of us playing, please Email us.
In the meantime I will put up my "artistic renderings" of The Cost.

*August,14,2000 - What a wonderous age to be alive!
New Disorder Records has always been at the forefront of the technological revolution with such groundbreaking inovations as "The Exploding Shania Twain", and "The Webpage That Will Break Your Computer Forever", and now it looks like they've done it again! You can now purchase New Disorder Records stuff, including The Cost, in mp3 format for half the price of the CD. What a deal! Read all about it here.

*August,13,2000 - I heart glam rock
this weekend i saw 80's drag queen metal superstars
poison with our vegan roadie adam and rion from the late great gods hate kansas. i find it very amusing that the same people that yell "faggot" at me are willing to shell out $30 to see 4 middle aged men dress like girls. poison has a new single titled "i hate every bone in your body but mine". its actually pretty good.
in other news: i think i have athletes foot.
xoxo - shauners
*August,11,2000 - I'm a big geek.
As promised, I am updating the news section, despite the fact that I have no important news about the band. But as we have all learned from the web, it doesn't matter how crappy, inane, lame, or bafflingly bizarre your website is, as long as you keep adding more garbage to it!
Since I don't have any news about The Cost, I thought I would share some of my favorite websites with you. So if anyone actually reads this stuff and is as bored as I am, here are some websites I have found in my many hours of job induced stupored web sufing that are actually pretty entertaining, enjoy!
+Superbad
+Exploding Dog
+Modern Living

*August,10,2000 - Testing, testing...
OK, so this is the new "news" section where we will post any news about The Cost, or show info, or anything else that pops into me or Shaun's heads while were sitting in front of our computers at work and not getting anything done.
We'll try to post updates here as often as we can and you can post replies to our rants on the guestbook.
The latest news right now is that we just did a TV show thing for B-TV that should air sometime in the next couple months. We'll let you know when it will be on and in the meantime we'll post some clips on this site as soon as it's done being edited.
That's all for now, -Steve
